We’re still here.

Ruben and I are still in Mason City, Iowa spending time with family and friends. We’ve been helping out at Ruben’s old job to make some cash before heading to Austin. To be totally honest, the two of us are nearly broke from the road trip, but we don’t regret it one bit. We are both working on building our savings back up in order to leave for Austin, Tx before winter hits here in Iowa. Thanks so much to everyone back home who has found work for us to do while we are here! Especially Matt at Wayne’s Ski & Cycle , he’s kept Ruben and Myself busy since we returned!

To everyone watching this blog, we want to apologize for the lack of updates lately, but please stay tuned! We are trying to plan some big stuff for the future!

Thanks for following!
-Mike

“because he had no place he could stay in without getting tired of it and because there was nowhere to go but everywhere..”
— Jack Kerouac, “On The Road”

New trip, same adventure

As you might of guessed from our last song post, we are in fact back in our home town.
We’ve spent 6 months on the road and felt like this was a good time to swing by Mason City to see family and friends. Don’t worry were not staying for good. We figured that we would stick around for a month or so and then head back to Austin, Tx. We decided not to stay in Portland for a few reasons, were kind of bummed about it but Austin was a great city and we are excited to return.

We would love to see everyone while we are back in town but we might try find some odd jobs to make some cash as well. If you know anyone that needs help moving, maybe their lawn mowed, or house painted let us know!!

-Mike

It’s been quite an experience here in Portland thus far.

Mike and I have had several interviews over the last couple of weeks and a lot of guests staying at the house.

I love the fact that I could Snowboard and Surf in the same day. That’s flippin’ awesome.

Alex (a new friend) & Gabi (an old friend) have been bunking with us for the past two weeks. Surprisingly enough, they’re both from Iowa!

Alex, (who we met over Instagram back in SF) Is out on the road doing something similar to our trip. He sold almost everything he owned and left Austin, TX. Back in June. After a couple failed attempts to meet up we finally crossed paths in Northern California for some epic camp vibes, then we went our own ways… Just over two weeks ago he hit us up and asked if he could crash at the house for a few days. It turned into almost two weeks. Of course we encouraged him to stay as long as he wanted. We’ve couchsurfed the last 6 months, it’s time we start paying it forward.

Alex left a couple days ago and is on his way to Alaska!

We’ll be meeting up again in the future.

Gabi is a good friend of mine and couldn’t wait to come visit me when I landed somewhere. So that’s exactly what she did. She got to see the Pacific Ocean for the first time, experience a beach bonfire, check out one of the coolest cities in the North West, meet tons of rad people, live with 3 dudes and a dog, sleep on the floor with no pillow, and hike to some of Americas most beautiful waterfalls. I’d say it was well worth the trip out here. She is back in Iowa for now. I don’t know how long she’ll be able to stay away from the Ocean though.

Meet the locals

This week we have been to two instameet or Instagram get togethers . These are events put on by local Instagram users like Ruben and I. We’ve come to realize that it’s a great way to make new friends and see cool places in city.

Thursday night we met a group downtown by the waterfront for a photo walk around the waterfront. We met a couple locals that will be great contacts in the future!

Today (Saturday) we spent the afternoon/evening with a bunch of Seattle locals who drove down to Lincoln City, OR to hang out and host another get together. We had a blast shooting photos on the beach and making new friends over some pizza and drinks before catching the sunset over the ocean. I’m sure we will have some photos for you from the last few days.

-Mike

We took a day trip to the ocean yesterday! We had to make a trip to one of my favorite spots along the Washington Coast, Deadman’s Cove! Its a great hidden beach on the SW tip of Washington state.

Stayed tuned for more photos soon.
